MAGNETOMETER MAGNEX 120 LW
Magnetometer MAGNEX 120 LW

APPLICATION
The MAGNEX 120 LW is used to locate ferromagnetic objects buried underground. UXO and pipes are typical search objects for the Magnetic Anomaly Detector, which is preferably used in the field of post-conflict battle area clearance.

Size position and magnetic intensity of the search object determine the possible detection range. Large ferrous objects can be located as far as up 6 meters buried underground.

The ergonomic well balanced design ensure an easy handling. The sensitivity stepping switch and the compensation knob can be operated with the same hand the detector is held with. The essential operation as well as batteries and electronics circuitry are integrated into the carrying. External battery container or electronic boxes interfering to the operator during search are now a thing of the past.

OPERATION PRINCIPLE
The MAGNEX 120 LW is a saturation-Magnetometer working as differentiating field strength meter. The design is based on two inductors, which are sensitive to magnetism and placed inside the probe. They indicate magnetic anomalies in the natural field. Both inductors are connected as differential bridge to suppress the homogenous terrestrial field. Magnetic anomalies coming within the range of the probe will generate an electric difference which is transformed into a positive resp. negative reading corresponding to the magnetic signature of the detected object. This indication, is also converted into a threshold-less audio signal. Indication starts by single signal pulses, which increase in frequency when approaching an object.

CONSTRUCTION
The MAGNEX 120 LW is a battery operated magnetometer designed for use in adverse conditions. It is designed as a compact unit, which consists of : the probe, the galvanometer, the control section with stepping switch and compensation button and the battery rod with closure.

The probe can be dismantled for immersion under water or in bore holes. A 25 meters immersion cable and non magnetic ballast can be supplied as options.

3 PROBES DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM
Data acquisition system with 3 magnetometer probes
This magnetometer data acquisition system collects and evaluates magnetic field measurements. It was developed for locating of unexploded ordnance underground or underwater. This system allows to create a magnetic map of the area, to locate the targets and to extract their features. This system enables to cover large areas in a short time, with such a density of measurement points to successfully detect contamination.

The data acquisition system consists of : one or several magnetometer probes, a glass fibre frame, an acquisition interface DLM-98 and a MAGNETO specific software for the processing of the measurement data. The frame can optionally be equipped with an amagnetic wheel train.

The magnetometer probes are the same as a MAGNEX 120 L magnetometer (NSN 6695-12-349-1502)

The DLM-98 (NSN 6695-12-335-3384) system enables the operator to record measurement data of the magnetometer probes. Even under the most extreme weather conditions, the DLM-98 can work without restriction.

After measurements, the data are transferred into the PC in a few seconds trough a RS-232 connection.

The MAGNETO (NSN 7030-12-335-3383) immediately displays a colour representation of magnetic field data. The processing capabilities of MAGNETO software allows to locate the targets and to determine their features (burying depth, inclination, declination, volume). MAGNETO support the semi-automatic identification of suspect objects by searching maximum and minimum values of the magnetic field in a pre-defined search rectangle. From the measurement curve between those identified points, the object parameters are then calculated and displayed.

Object properties are stored in object files. Colour coded maps, maps displaying object locations and object lists can be printed. Maps can be printed to a specified scale on virtually any paper format.

GPS REFERENCED DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM
GPS referenced data acquisition system with 8 to 32 magnetometer probes

This data acquisition system is the complete solution for the computer-aided detection and location of ferro-magnetic objects buried in the ground. It comprises 8, 16 or 32 magnetometer probes with a specific designed carrier / trailer, three software modules (MonMX, DLMGPS and MAGNETO®) and a multiplexer hardware which interfaces the sensors and a RTK-GPS-system to the data acquisition PC-platform. The software modules provide separate functional entities for data acquisition in the field, transformation, rectification and pre-processing of raw data and interpolation and visualisation of thus collected data.

A large number of defined interfaces allow raw and processed data as well as the results of the analysis to be integrated into other software systems for documentation and archiving.
GPS-referenced data acquisition in the field is obtained by the MonMX software. MonMX pro-vides data collection from up to 32 sensors. The sensor carrier is towed by a sui-table vehicle or pushed/pulled by the operator it-self. During ac-tive data acqui-sition, a real-time navigation display shows the track which the sensor array is being moved along and all project tracks already surveyed, thus ensuring that no “white space” is produced within the survey area. The data is time stamped and synchronised with the GPS-position which is recorded simultaneously and in high precision mode (Real-Time-Kinematic, RTK).

After field measurements the acquired raw data is interpolated and positionally referenced with the GPS-data within DLMGPS. Multiple data files are assembled into one DLM-file, which is subsequently exported for use in the MAGNETO® software.

In a semi-automatic process the operator can pick suspect signatures from the screen and have the soft-ware perform a calculation of the object properties, its burial depth and location. As a result maps and object lists are obtained containing all information about the objects along with their location.
